Title: Régime alimentaire de quelques oiseaux de rivage sur deux milieux lacunaires des Iles-de-la-Madeleine, dans le golfe Saint-Laurent, Québec
Author: Doyon, Denise; McNeil, Raymond
Abstract: During the 1970 and 1971 summers, the food availability and food preference of 11 species of North American shorebirds were investigated in two fall migration transit habitats on the Magdalen Islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The data, presented in percentages, are analysed according to three different and complementary methods : the numbers method, the average weights method, and the frequency of occurrence method. The value of the two lagoon habitats as a food source is discussed in function of the differences and resemblances in the gut contents of the shorebirds. The results of the present study may serve as indexes for selec ting and preserving the more suitable habitats for shorebirds during fall migration on the Atlantic coast of eastern North America.
